Emails from Friends Dear Helen, Although getting to know you only at the latter part of your life, the three generations of our family have welcomed you to our fold wholeheartedly. Your professional health advice and demonstration of good appetite during our weekly dinning-out have inspired us both mentally and physically. Your steadfast faith in God and positive attitude toward life, have taught us how to manage our lives more appropriately. Most of all, your battle against illness with such matchless stamina had inspired us in how to handle our lives more correctly. Bye now, Helen, as our twin grandsons said at the memorial service, “We love you and will remember you forever!”
Helen and Roque Ip came into the Wang family through the Legend of Mary Group at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Helen and Betty became bound by the spirit and formed a long and wonderful friendship that included the husbands and the two younger generations of the Wang family. Helen always enjoyed and looked for the positive things in life. She approached life as a wondrous adventure. The special love that she and Roque shared was one of many things that we can all remember and strive for. She had a gift for living every day to its fullest including the many challenges that her long illness presented. We miss Helen but we are ever thankful for the many wonderful memories we have of her. The loss of this gracious and giving person has set a difficult standard for her friends and loved ones to live by. Helen was a dear friend to us all.
I only want to recall the fact that Mrs. Helen Ip had helped me through the HK School Certificate Exam. I was very nervous and lack of confidence at that time. It was even my intention not to sit for the exam. Mrs. Ip had kindly given me her home phone number so that I could call her whenever I needed. I passed my exams with flying colors --- one distinction and six credits. I got through the entrance exam for the College of Education. If my school cert result was not so good, I think I can only be a humble clerk or a salesgirl. I always remember her, my respectful Mrs. Helen Ip!!!
Helen's sister-in-law, Charlotte Ip, noted that while the cancer weakened and eventually destroyed Helen's body, Helen did not allow the disease to erode her spirit. Rather, the disease helped her to realize her incredible strength of character. She focused not on her own suffering but looked outward to see how she could help and support others, Her faith in God, her love for her family and friends and her positive attitude gave strength to those who knew her. Charlotte's perspective is that while we have lost our beloved Helen, we have received a very precious enduring gift from her. We have learned the true meaning of caring and love and the importance of telling our loved ones how we feel about them and how much they mean to us.
